There are 2 groupings used, the bugs and the zapper. The zapper uses three linear gradients. One for the metal, and one for each state of the fluorescent bulb. A spaced Pattern is applied to create the metal screen look, and another pattern was created to use as a “link” that is repeated in a defined size rectangle to display a full chain.
The action is started when the little red button is clicked at the bottom of the zapper to turn it “on”. A tiny rotate is applied to give it that “fluorescent start up flicker”. The bugs are ellipses following defined paths with duration attributes and use a filter to get the effect of “burning” at the end of their path, against the zapper.
I’m still a novice, not a programmer, and this was hand coded in a text editor using simple constructs and without any images or other external files. It does require one of the latest versions of Opera or similar for the animation, for now…
